The City of McKinney serves as the county seat of Collin County and is located 30 miles north of Dallas. Both the city and the county are named for Collin McKinney, land surveyor, patriot, legislator, signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and author of the law creating counties in the northern part of Texas.
Located at the top of the North Dallas Technology Corridor, McKinney is experiencing phenomenal residential and commercial growth.

Driver's License
Transfer your driver's license from an out-of-state to a Texas license within 30 days of your arrival. Your vehicle must have passed inspection and you must have registered your car prior to obtaining your Texas driver's license. If you have a valid out-of-state license, exams are not required.

Vehicle Tags
If you are moving into the state of Texas, you must pay a new resident tax of $90, a registration fee, $11.50 local fee and $33 title fee.
You must have your vehicle state-inspected and bring in your certificate of inspection form, current proof of liability insurance, social security numbers for all titled owners, out-of-state registration or title and lienholder information, if applicable.
Cash is required unless you have a pre-printed check with your name and current address on it and is presented with a valid Texas driver's license.
